Privacy Policy

Context stores the words you save so they can follow you between devices, and sends those words to a small number of services to generate and narrate the cards. That is the whole of it. This page spells out what is kept, what leaves our servers, and how to have it all deleted.

Who we are

Context is made by Snugsy. If you have a question about anything on this page, email info@snugsy.ca.

Your account

You sign in to Context with Sign in with Apple. We never see or store a password. Apple gives us an identifier for your account and an email address — and if you choose Apple’s “Hide My Email” option, that address is a private relay address rather than your real one. Either way, we use it only to identify your account and to reply if you contact us.

Alongside your account we store your preferences: how many words a day you want, which narration voice you prefer, and whether you have finished setup.

The words you save

When you save a word, we store the word itself, the card generated for it — the explanation, examples, category, etymology and quiz questions — and whether you have marked it as still learning or known, along with when you last saw it. This is what allows your library to follow you to a new device.

If you add your own context when saving a word — the book you were reading, a conversation, a show — we store that text and the short personalised note generated from it. That note is tied to your account and is not shown to anyone else.

Your saved words are never shown to other users, never used to build a public profile, and never sold.

How cards are generated

To write a card, we send the word or term you saved to Anthropic, which generates the explanation, examples, etymology and quiz questions. If you added your own context, that text is sent too, so the note can refer to it.

To read a card aloud, we send the card’s text to OpenAI, which returns the audio. OpenAI is also used to screen submitted terms for abusive content before a card is generated.

We do not send your name, email address or account identifier to either service — only the text needed to produce the card or the audio.

Shared caching

Cards and narration audio are cached and reused. If two people save the same common word, the second person is served the stored card rather than a freshly generated one. This cache is keyed by the word itself and holds no record of who saved it. Personalised context notes are never cached this way — they are generated per account and stored only against yours.

Subscriptions

Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your card details. Apple sends us the transaction identifiers and the status of your trial or subscription, which we store so the app knows whether your access is active. We also record a small number of events around the subscription prompt — that it was shown, started, declined or converted, and roughly how many words you had saved at the time — so we can tell whether the trial length is set sensibly.

Notifications

If you turn on the daily reminder, it is scheduled by iOS on your device at the time you choose. The reminder is not sent from our servers and we are not told whether you opened it.

Where your data is held

Account data, saved words and cached audio are stored with Supabase, and the service that talks to it runs on Railway. Access to your rows is restricted at the database level so one account cannot read another’s.

This website

This site uses Vercel Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without building a profile of you. It sets nothing on your device and does not track you across other sites.

Deleting your data

Email info@snugsy.ca from the address on your account and we will delete your account, your saved words and your preferences. Deleting the app from your phone removes it from that device but does not remove your synced library, so email us if you want it gone for good.

Children

Context is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects how your information is handled, we will update the date at the top of this page and note the change in the app.
